Three South Georgia agencies dedicated to helping those in need have been selected as 2012 recipients of the Cancer Coalition of South Georgia Cancer Care Grants: Helping Patients and Their Families Through Local Organizations. Bainbridge Advocacy Individual Network, Inc., Center for Independent Living, Cook County Family Connection, and Southwest Georgia Community Action Council, Inc. will each receive $4,000 to help address critical needs of cancer patients in their communities.

To date, the Coalition has awarded more than $180,000 to local community non-profits since the grants were established in 2006. The grants are funded through individual donations to the Coalition.

“We are so pleased to be able to provide funding to local organizations that assist cancer patients in our service area,” said Denise Ballard, Cancer Coalition Vice President of Cancer Prevention and Control. According to Ballard, non-profit community-based health or advocacy organizations that directly support cancer patients were encouraged to apply for the grants. “Through these partnerships, the Cancer Coalition is able to reach more of our neighbors in need as they cope with cancer treatment.”
