The Cancer Coalition of South Georgia is preparing to host its second annual Night for Hope fundraising gala on Saturday, February 14. The elegant, formal celebration honors a local cancer survivor and includes a plated dinner, live and silent auctions, and live musical entertainment. The community is invited to support the local fight against cancer by attending the event, sponsoring or providing auction items. The 2015 event will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn in Downtown Albany beginning at 6:00 in the evening.

“We were very pleased with the 2014 event and are excited that the community is looking forward to Night for Hope on an annual basis,” said Melissa Goodin, Development Manager. “Guests will have a delightful time while supporting an important cause. It also can be a special way to spend Valentine’s Day, as a couple or with anyone you love.”

The 2015 Albany Night for Hope honoree is Mrs. Ruthie Garner, a WALB-TV News Anchor who is a beloved personality and an encouraging voice across South Georgia. Ruthie started her career at WALB in 1983 and is glad to be back on the air after recently completing treatment. Ruthie is also renowned for her beautiful vocal performances. Married to optometrist Dr. Michael J. Garner, who is also a cancer survivor, Ruthie and her husband have a son, Stephen.

Concerned about our area’s high cancer rates, Ruthie appreciates the Cancer Coalition of South Georgia’s work in our communities. She now shares her story to inspire all of us to be proactive about our health. With the community’s support, the Cancer Coalition will honor Ruthie – and all those touched by cancer – by continuing its community-based prevention, screening and early detection, education, and research, all done exclusively in South Georgia.

Cancer Coalition CEO Diane Fletcher said, “We are excited to honor Ruthie Garner and to give her the opportunity to share her passion for the Cancer Coalition’s local work.”

The Cancer Coalition also is grateful to this year’s Presenting Sponsor, the family of Robin Fletcher Elmore. The family’s tremendous support is given in memory of their beloved wife, daughter and sister who lost her battle to cancer last year.

Cancer Coalition officials are seeking additional business and family sponsorships as well as auction donations. Please contact Melissa at 229-312-1706. For tickets or more information, please call 229-312-1700 or visit www.sgacancer.org .
