August 23, 2017 | Blakely, GA – Primary Care of Southwest Georgia, Inc. (PCSG), in partnership with the Cancer Coalition of South Georgia, held its second annual fundraising event that raised more than $7,300 to fight cancer locally.  Those funds will cover approximately 58 breast cancer screenings and diagnostic exams, and also support a small portion of the cost of individualized education and health navigation for Early County residents. The funds may also pay for transportation assistance to assist Early County residents in traveling to and from cancer treatment(s). “Every dollar donated to the Cancer Coalition helps to support our work right here,” said Coalition CEO Diane Fletcher. The Cancer Coalition of South Georgia provides cancer related services, education, research and outreach exclusively in our area’s communities.

This special event was held on Thursday, June 22nd at Polly’s that featured a buffet dinner, a silent and live auction and live musical entertainment by Tanner Gleaton. Throughout the evening, guests had the opportunity to learn about the Cancer Coalition’s mission and its work in our community. Our Keynote Speaker, Adam Jones, M.D., Radiation Oncology, at Phoebe Putney Health System in Albany, Georgia, delivered a heartfelt speech of why it is so important to have regular cancer screenings and how it could save lives.

Fletcher stated, “We are extremely grateful to our sponsors that helped by donating items for the Silent and Live Auctions, as well, all for their generous support; Golden Peanut/Archer Daniels Midland Company, Olam Edible Nuts, Bank of Early, BJ’s Express-Marathon, Cornerstone Insurance Group, First State Bank of Blakely, Pioneer Community Hospital of Early, Early County Gin, Inc., Early County High School, Agri Insurance Service, Inc., Collier Insurance Agency and Collier Realty Company, Five Star Credit Union, Early Auto Parts/NAPA, and various other businesses.”
